Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, regained his freedom on Friday following his release from the Kuje Custodial Centre. This came after he successfully met the bail conditions stipulated by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), FCT Command, Adamu Duza, confirmed Bello’s release, stating, “Yahaya Bello has been released after meeting bail conditions. He was released this evening.” The FCT Controller of NCoS, Ajibogun Olatubosun, was present to oversee the release process and ensure all protocols were duly followed.
Bello was granted bail on Thursday by Justice MaryAnne Anenih, who set the bail at N500 million. The conditions required Bello to provide three sureties who own properties in high-value areas of Abuja, such as Maitama, Guzape, or Asokoro. Additionally, he was mandated to surrender his international passport to restrict his travel outside Nigeria without prior court approval.
The former governor, alongside Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu, is facing a 16-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The charges include conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and unlawful possession of property. All three accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
