Project Overview

Dr. Olufemi Bolarin, the Kogi L-PRES Project Coordinator, shared the news, highlighting that the selection was based on several critical factors. These included the availability of suitable land, a strategic location, comprehensive project design, and an established livestock trade infrastructure.

Key Features and Objectives

The LSC, to be located near Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Osara, is designed to revolutionize livestock production in the state and beyond. Key goals include:

  • Boosting Livestock Productivity: Implementing modern feedlot systems and processing facilities.
  • Creating Employment Opportunities: Generating jobs in farming, processing, and support services.
  • Enhancing Food Security: Improving livestock yields to ensure a stable food supply.

Infrastructure and Facilities

The center will feature:

  • A state-of-the-art animal reference and diagnostic hospital.
  • A modern automated poultry production system.
  • An artificial insemination center.
  • Facilities for breeding both large and small ruminants.

Economic and Social Impact

Dr. Bolarin emphasized that the center would serve as a hub for innovation and development in the livestock sector, contributing significantly to Kogi’s economic growth. The project is expected to leverage the state’s strategic market location and academic resources to enhance productivity and sustainability.

Government Support

Bolarin expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Ododo for his unwavering support, noting that his commitment to agricultural advancement was pivotal in achieving this milestone.

This initiative promises to position Kogi State as a leader in Nigeria’s livestock industry, fostering innovation, economic development, and improved food security nationwide.
