The Consul General of the United States to Nigeria, Will Stevens, has lauded the Akwa Ibom State government for its effective handling of health challenges such as COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS, as well as addressing climate change issues in the state. Stevens, during a courtesy visit to Governor Umo Eno in Uyo, acknowledged the state’s remarkable work in combating health issues and expressed the United States’ commitment to Nigeria’s economic growth and prosperity.
Stevens emphasized the need for robust partnerships, echoing a sentiment previously conveyed by U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken during his recent visit to Nigeria. He reiterated the United States’ dedication to supporting Nigeria’s economic development, including its subnational entities.
During the visit, Stevens extended congratulations to Governor Umo Eno for his victory in the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial polls, describing them as “free, fair, and credible.” In response, Governor Eno expressed gratitude for the Consul General’s visit and affirmed his government’s readiness to collaborate with American investors, particularly in sectors such as oil and gas, blue economy, agriculture, and tourism.
As part of the visit, Governor Eno showcased ongoing developmental projects, including the inspection of the Model Primary School at Christ the King School, scheduled for commissioning at the end of the month. The Consul General commended the governor’s vision in education and applauded the strides made in various developmental initiatives since his inauguration eight months ago.
