Tragedy Strikes as Boat Carrying Traders from Kogi Capsizes in Niger State

A tragic boat accident has claimed several lives along the River Niger in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night near Sokun Village, involved a boat transporting traders from Bugge Village in Kogi State to Sokun in Niger State. According to eyewitness accounts, the boat was heavily loaded with over 200 bags of paddy rice when it encountered turbulent weather conditions, including a violent windstorm, leading to its capsizing.
Local resident Baba Alhassan revealed that the exact number of passengers on board remains uncertain. He also confirmed that none of the rice bags could be recovered, as they were lost to the river.
The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah, confirmed the incident. He stated that efforts are ongoing to determine the total number of casualties and the precise cause of the accident.
