Episode 6

Anita POV

The days following the party were a blend of introspection and anticipation. The memory of the dance with Alexander lingered in my mind, a bright spot amid the challenges I faced. I couldn’t help but wonder about the complexities of his life, the world he inhabited, and the secrets he carried. It was a reminder that appearances could be deceiving, that there was more to people than met the eye.

One afternoon, as I sat on the porch lost in my thoughts, my phone buzzed with a message from Tracy.

Tracy: Hey, guess what? I’ve got some news that might make your day!

I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by her cryptic message.

Anita: Spill the beans! What’s the news?

Tracy: Remember that business event at the Hilton next week? I managed to score us invites. It’s a big deal, and you know what that means, right? A chance to bump into a certain someone.

My heart skipped a beat as I read her words. The idea of attending an event where I might see Alexander again was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. I typed my response with a mix of excitement and hesitation.

Anita: Are you serious? You really think he’ll be there?

Tracy: Let’s just say, I’ve got a hunch. And even if he’s not, it’s still a fantastic opportunity to network and maybe have a bit of fun. What do you say?

I stared at the screen for a moment, contemplating the possibilities. The idea of attending a high-profile event was intimidating, but it also presented a chance to step out of my comfort zone.

Anita: Okay, you’ve convinced me. Count me in. But only if you promise we’ll have each other’s backs.

Tracy: Deal! It’s going to be epic. Get ready to glam up, my friend!

As the day of the event approached, I found myself oscillating between excitement and doubt. The thought of encountering Alexander once again was both thrilling and nerve-wracking. But regardless of what the evening held, I was determined to face it with courage.

The night of the event arrived, and I stood in front of the mirror, taking a deep breath. The dress I had chosen was elegant yet understated, and I had allowed Tracy to have her way with my makeup. She had insisted on transforming me into a glamorous version of myself, and though I felt slightly out of my element, I couldn’t deny that the reflection staring back at me was striking.

As we arrived at the Hilton, the grandeur of the venue was awe-inspiring. The event hall was filled with elegantly dressed guests, the air buzzing with anticipation. Tracy and I mingled, exchanging pleasantries and engaging in conversations with fellow attendees. Every now and then, my eyes scanned the room, searching for any sign of Alexander.

Just as the evening was in full swing, a familiar voice caught my attention. I turned to see Sandra approaching, a warm smile on her face. “Anita, Tracy! I’m so glad you could make it.”

We exchanged hugs and pleasantries, and I couldn’t help but ask, “Is your brother here tonight?”

Sandra’s smile held a hint of mystery. “You never know who might make an appearance at these events. Keep your eyes peeled.”

As the evening progressed, Tracy and I found ourselves immersed in conversations with various attendees. The room was abuzz with discussions about business, politics, and the latest trends. Every now and then, my gaze would wander, searching for the face that had occupied my thoughts since the party.

And then, just when I least expected it, our eyes met across the room. Alexander stood in a small group, engaged in conversation. Our gazes locked, and for a moment, the world around us seemed to fade into the background. It was as if everything was in slow motion, and in that moment, I felt a connection that defied explanation.
