Episode 1
Anita’s POV
As Tracy informed me about Sandra’s birthday party, I couldn’t help but feel a flicker of excitement amidst the turmoil in my life. Maybe a night of celebration could help distract me from the complicated mess I found myself in.
Tracy’s voice broke through my thoughts, “Anita, are you there?”
“Yeah, I’m here,” I replied. “I guess a party might be a good idea. I could use a little fun.”
“That’s the spirit!” Tracy exclaimed. “And who knows, you might even meet someone interesting there.”
I chuckled softly. “Doubtful, but we’ll see.”
After hanging up, I wandered into my room and stood in front of the mirror. The reflection that stared back at me seemed a bit lost. The events of the past had changed so much between Elizabeth and me. We used to be inseparable, but now there was an insurmountable distance.
As I began to change into a more casual outfit for the party, my mind inevitably drifted to Alexander. It was strange how a single night could alter the course of one’s life so drastically. Our unexpected encounter and the consequences that followed were a whirlwind I hadn’t fully grasped yet.
I shook off those thoughts and focused on the present. With a sigh, I headed downstairs, where my parents were nowhere to be found, probably out for one of their social events. I wondered if they even realized the tension between Elizabeth and me.
The party atmosphere was lively when I arrived at Sandra’s place. Music thumped through the air, and laughter echoed around the room. Tracy spotted me and waved me over, her enthusiasm contagious.
“Anita, you made it!” she yelled over the music.
“Yeah, I did,” I replied, offering a small smile. “Happy birthday to Sandra.”
Tracy led me deeper into the crowd, introducing me to people I barely registered as my mind wandered. It wasn’t until I felt a tap on my shoulder that I snapped back to reality.
“Hey there, beautiful,” a guy said with a wink. His name was Mark, according to Tracy’s introduction. He was charming and had a disarming smile, but my heart wasn’t in it.
We chatted for a while, and he was clearly interested, but my thoughts kept drifting back to the unresolved matters at home. I excused myself to grab a drink and found a quiet corner to collect my thoughts.
As I sipped my drink, a familiar voice cut through the hum of the party. “Anita, isn’t it?”
I turned to see Alexander standing there, a glass in hand and a half-smile on his lips. My heart raced as our eyes locked. “Yeah, that’s me.”
He chuckled softly. “Fancy meeting you here.”
My mind raced for something clever to say, but words escaped me. Instead, I managed a nervous smile. “Yeah, it’s a surprise.”
As we stood there amidst the party, the world seemed to fade around us, leaving only the two of us in that moment. Little did I know that this encounter would only add another layer of complexity to the story that had already begun to unfold.
