A South African content creator, identified as Grand Dilan, has taken to social media to apologize to Nigerians and urge them to stop the ongoing Bolt ride prank that has spiraled out of control. In a viral video seen by Saturday PUNCH on Tuesday, Dilan is seen kneeling and expressing his concern over the negative impact the prank has had on businesses.
The prank originated when some South Africans began ordering Bolt rides in Lagos, Nigeria, from South Africa, only to cancel the orders once the drivers arrived at the pick-up locations. In retaliation, some Nigerians started doing the same in Johannesburg and Cape Town, ordering rides from their base in Lagos and then canceling them.
In his video, Dilan acknowledges that the situation has escalated far beyond a simple prank, with many businesses in South Africa suffering as a result. He appealed to Nigerians to put an end to the prank, noting the severe consequences it has had on various businesses.
“Nigerians, I’m on my knees. I’m begging you people to stop this. You guys have skyrocketed to another level,” Dilan pleaded. “You guys have damaged a lot of businesses back in South Africa. So many businesses have closed apps. This is getting out of hand. You are destroying people’s businesses. You have destroyed millions.”
Dilan’s emotional appeal highlights the unintended fallout from the prank, which has led to significant financial losses and disruptions for businesses in both countries.
