Senator Karimi Sunday, Chairman of the Senate Services Committee, has empowered women cooperative groups in the Kogi-West Senatorial District with N100 million. The initiative is aimed at helping these groups kick-start and expand small-scale businesses amid the current economic hardship in Nigeria.
Announcing the empowerment on Friday, Sen. Sunday revealed that 50 women cooperative groups have already benefited from the funds this week. The senator described the gesture as a fulfillment of a promise made to the women of the district in recent weeks.
“This is a fulfillment of a promise. It will go a long way in cushioning the effects of the current economic challenges as the government works towards improving the situation. The goal is to support their small businesses,” Sen. Sunday stated.
He further assured that more groups and associations would be empowered over time, underscoring his commitment to uplifting the economic prospects of women in his district.
In addition to the financial aid, Sen. Sunday highlighted a training program previously organized for women in the three federal constituencies within the district. The program focused on teaching women viable small-scale investment options they could explore.
“This week, a sum of N100 million has been transferred to the cooperative group accounts,” he confirmed.
Represented by his wife, Stellamari Karimi, during the empowerment event, the senator advised the women to use the funds wisely for profitable ventures and resist the temptation to view it as “free money.” The initiative is expected to strengthen their businesses and improve their financial independence.
