Pro-Democracy Activist Backs Recall of Senator Natasha, Accuses Her of False Allegations

Comrade Okpe Sylvanus, a pro-democracy activist, has thrown his weight behind the ongoing recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, saying she has failed to meet the expectations of Kogi Central constituents.

In a viral video, Sylvanus defended the constitutional right of the electorate to recall their representative, stating that the senator’s conduct—particularly her unsubstantiated allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio—has brought disrepute to her office.

“As a lawyer and senator, she should know that he who asserts must prove,” Sylvanus said, criticizing Akpoti-Uduaghan for making serious claims without evidence. He accused her of misusing public resources to spread what he called “baseless allegations” globally rather than serving her constituents.

The activist also referenced a 2021 incident where Akpoti-Uduaghan allegedly accused Reno Omokri of sexual harassment but later withdrew when confronted with counterevidence. “She has a history of reckless accusations,” Sylvanus asserted.

Expressing dismay over her recent remarks about Akpabio, Sylvanus questioned why her husband would tolerate such behavior, saying, “No self-respecting man should allow his wife to bring such shame upon their family.”

He dismissed claims that the recall effort was politically motivated, mocking those linking it to former Governor Yahaya Bello. “Everything is Yahaya Bello to them. It’s an excuse to evade accountability,” he said.

Sylvanus praised Kogi Central voters for taking action, urging INEC to proceed with the recall process fairly and promptly.
