The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has responded to former Senator Dino Melaye’s media attacks on him and the party’s leadership. Melaye, who has criticized the PDP leadership since the formation of reconciliation and disciplinary committees, claimed that the party under Damagum’s leadership has been “commercialised” and lost its relevance.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on August 24, 2024, Melaye accused Damagum, along with PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and National Organising Secretary Umar Bature, of damaging the party, declaring that “PDP is now once upon a time.”
Responding, Damagum shot back, saying Melaye himself is part of the problem, accusing him of failing to vote for himself in the Kogi governorship election, where Melaye represented the party. Damagum stated, “He didn’t even go out to vote in his own election.”
Melaye has since been suspended from the PDP for alleged anti-party activities by his Ward Party Executive Committee in Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
