NLC Calls for Implementation of Revised CONMESS for Veterinary Doctors in Kogi State

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State to approve the implementation of the 2021 revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for veterinary doctors in the state.

Gabriel Amari, the state Chairman of NLC, emphasized the need for equity in the remuneration of health workers in Kogi, highlighting the disparity in salaries and urging for immediate action to address the situation.

Amari pointed out that while the previous governor had approved the implementation of the revised CONMESS for medical doctors in the state civil service in January 2021, veterinary doctors were excluded from this arrangement. He stressed the importance of equal remuneration for both medical and veterinary doctors, citing global standards in the profession.

The labour leader called on Governor Ododo to intervene and rectify the disparity, ensuring that state veterinary doctors receive the same consideration as their medical counterparts.

In addition to the implementation of the revised CONMESS, Amari demanded the fulfillment of previous agreements regarding promotions, leave bonuses, annual increments, and other allowances for workers in the state.

Amidst the economic challenges faced by workers, including the current national minimum wage of N30,000, Amari advocated for an immediate adjustment in wages to around N35,000 in Kogi State. This adjustment, he argued, would provide temporary relief to workers grappling with the rising costs of goods and services until negotiations for a new minimum wage are concluded.

The NLC’s call underscores the importance of fair and equitable treatment for all workers, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to address disparities and improve the welfare of veterinary doctors and other workers in Kogi State.
