NiMet Predicts Three Days of Thunderstorms and Rain in Kogi State, Other Regions

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a three-day weather pattern involving thunderstorms and rains across the country, from Sunday to Tuesday.

In a report released on Saturday, NiMet forecasted morning thunderstorms for northern states such as Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba on Sunday, with additional rainfall expected later in the day across Adamawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano, Zamfara, Borno, and other parts of northern Nigeria.

The North Central region is expected to experience thunderstorms with moderate rainfall, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Benue, during both morning and afternoon hours.

Southern states, including Oyo, Imo, Enugu, Ogun, and Lagos, are likely to see light morning rain, followed by moderate thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

On Monday, thunderstorms with moderate rains are predicted in northern states like Taraba, Gombe, Kaduna, and Adamawa. The North Central region will experience light morning rains and moderate thunderstorms later in the day, while southern states will have rain in the morning, with heavier downpours expected in the afternoon.

Tuesday will bring partly cloudy skies in the northern region during the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rain expected in the afternoon in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe. North Central states, including Kogi, Kwara, and Niger, are forecasted to experience moderate thunderstorms in both the morning and afternoon hours.

NiMet warned of possible urban flooding in major cities due to heavy rainfall and advised residents to avoid flood-prone areas. Strong winds may precede thunderstorms, and the public is urged to adhere to safety advisories. Airline operators are also advised to stay updated on weather conditions for effective planning.
