NiMet Forecasts Isolated Thunderstorms in Kogi, 3 Other States in Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting isolated thunderstorms in several states across Nigeria for the week.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday, Kogi, Benue, Kwara, and Niger states are expected to experience isolated thunderstorms during the forecast period.

The agency also stated that sunshine and haziness are anticipated from Monday to Wednesday across the country.

On Monday, NiMet forecasts sunny skies in a hazy atmosphere over the northern region, with prospects of dust haze in states like Yobe, Borno, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Kano. In the North Central region, a cloudy atmosphere is expected with isolated thunderstorms later in the day over parts of Kwara, Benue, Niger, and Kogi states. Meanwhile, the southern region is predicted to experience cloudy weather with morning thunderstorms in areas such as Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

For Tuesday, NiMet anticipates sunny skies with isolated thunderstorms over parts of Taraba state in the northern region. Similar to Monday, the North Central region is expected to have a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms later in the day over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Plateau states. In the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere with morning thunderstorms is predicted over states like Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom.

Wednesday’s forecast indicates sunny skies throughout the day in the northern region, while the North Central region is expected to have sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms later in the day over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, and Plateau states. In the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere is expected during the morning hours, with isolated thunderstorms forecasted later in the day over various states including Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Lagos.

NiMet advises the public to take precautions against strong winds that may precede the thunderstorms, especially in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. Additionally, individuals with respiratory issues are advised to be cautious of the current weather conditions. Furthermore, NiMet urges airline operators to stay updated with weather reports and forecasts for effective planning in their operations.
