Nigeria’s national electricity grid suffered another collapse on Tuesday morning, marking the second outage in less than 24 hours. The grid failure, which occurred at 9:17 a.m., followed Monday evening’s collapse at 6:18 p.m., leading to a nationwide blackout.

On Monday, power generation plummeted from 3.87 gigawatts at 5 p.m. to zero by 8 p.m., and the Tuesday morning collapse once again saw grid supply drop to 0.00MW, affecting all regions. Power distribution companies, including Eko Electricity Distribution Company, confirmed the system collapse and are working with partners to restore supply.

The back-to-back grid failures have sparked concerns about the stability of the nation’s electricity supply. Princewill Okorie, Executive Director of the Electricity Consumer Protection Advocacy Centre, criticized the situation, questioning why the grid continues to collapse despite increased electricity tariffs and expressing frustration over continued charges for unmetered customers during outages.

Efforts are underway to restore power, though the spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Ndidi Mbah, has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the situation.
