Nigeria is set to hold a final validation workshop for its draft national blue economy strategy from October 14 to 16, 2024, in Abuja. The event is organized by the African Union – Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources and supported by the Kingdom of Norway. It aims to finalize the strategy and promote the sustainable development of Nigeria’s maritime resources.
Key topics include sustainable energy, blue tourism, fisheries, governance, and shipping. The workshop will feature opening remarks from Georges Asseko of the African Union, Obinna Anozie, and Nigeria’s Minister of Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola. The three-day event will involve expert presentations, group discussions, and strategy reviews.
The workshop will conclude with the presentation of the strategy’s implementation plan, governance framework, and the adoption of a final communique, marking a significant step toward Nigeria’s future in the blue economy sector.
