A recently promoted officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified only as Opatola and attached to the Iwo division, has reportedly died after collapsing in the division’s restroom shortly after receiving his salary.
Opatola, who had been promoted and decorated just last week, was said to have resumed duty on Monday in good health. However, after a discussion among colleagues over their recent salary notifications, Opatola, who appeared visibly troubled, excused himself to the restroom. Concerned by his prolonged absence, coworkers went to check on him and found him unconscious on the floor. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An anonymous source at the NSCDC revealed that officers, including Opatola, expressed disappointment over the salary amount upon receiving the notification. The source speculated that the disappointment might have exacerbated an underlying health issue, ultimately leading to his death.
Attempts to reach Osun Command’s NSCDC spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and messages remained unanswered at the time of reporting.
