NAFDAC Seals Abuja Pharmacy Over Expired and Unregistered Drugs

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a pharmacy located on Onitsha Crescent, Area 11, Garki, Abuja, for selling expired and unregistered drugs. The operation, carried out by NAFDAC’s enforcement team, led to the confiscation of expired products valued at over ₦7 million.
Among the seized items were expired “H-Pylori” test kits, which pose serious health risks to consumers. The agency also arrested the pharmacy’s managing director and superintendent pharmacist for further questioning regarding the sale of the illegal products.
Staff Attempts to Obstruct the Operation
During the enforcement exercise, staff members of the pharmacy reportedly attempted to obstruct the operation, but NAFDAC officials secured the premises and completed the exercise. The agency emphasized that stringent sanctions would be imposed to deter such unethical practices in the future.
NAFDAC’s Warning to the Public
In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, NAFDAC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant when purchasing regulated products. It encouraged consumers to report any suspicious activities or businesses involved in the sale of expired or unregistered drugs to the nearest NAFDAC office.
The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting public health by clamping down on illegal and unethical practices in the pharmaceutical sector.
