Hajiya Sefinat Ododo, the wife of Kogi Governor Usman Ododo, has urged residents to support her husband, assuring them that he will not disappoint. Speaking at an event marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day at the Government House in Lokoja, she reaffirmed her office’s commitment to sustaining women empowerment initiatives in the state.
Over the past eight months, Mrs. Ododo’s office has launched various programs to empower women and young girls, including grants for over 1,000 women in small and medium businesses. She emphasized the importance of enhancing girl child education and vocational training to secure a brighter future for women in Kogi.
Mrs. Ododo called on all levels of government to take action to protect women’s rights, combat violence against women, and support their contributions to nation-building. She stressed the vital role women play in shaping society and underscored the need for protection against sexual and gender-based violence.
Additionally, she highlighted the administration’s commitment to addressing poverty, insecurity, healthcare access, and the issue of out-of-school children in Kogi.
In her remarks, Mrs. Ododo expressed gratitude to Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for her support of women’s empowerment programs across the nation, describing her as a beacon of hope for women.
She concluded by assuring residents that Governor Ododo would prioritize the needs of women and youth, urging them to continue supporting his administration. Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade, also commended the governor’s wife for her dedication to women’s empowerment and encouraged women to pray for the success of the state and the nation.
