A 58-year-old man tragically passed away while undergoing a 19-day dry fasting ritual in Lagos State. The incident, which occurred in the Alagbado area, was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday.
According to reports, the incident happened early Monday morning, around 6:00 AM. The man’s younger brother, whose name was also not disclosed, reported the death to the Alagbado Police Division later that evening, around 7:00 PM. The younger brother informed the police that his sibling had died while attempting the prolonged spiritual fast.
SP Hundeyin stated that no foul play was suspected in the man’s death. The family has requested to take custody of the body for burial, indicating their intention to handle the matter privately.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of extreme fasting practices without medical supervision.
