Man arrested for crashing car into Buckingham Palace gates

A man was apprehended by officers after he drove a car into the gates of Buckingham Palace in London over the weekend, according to police reports on Sunday.

The Metropolitan Police stated that the vehicle “collided with the gates” of the royal residence at 02:30 GMT on Saturday.

Upon the incident, armed officers swiftly detained the man at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage. He was subsequently taken to the hospital for further assessment, as per a spokesperson for the police force.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and investigations are currently underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the event, the spokesperson added.

Security measures at Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British royal family, are notably stringent, with armed officers consistently monitoring the building located in the heart of the capital.

Notably, Buckingham Palace has encountered several attempted breaches in the past.

In September of the previous year, a 25-year-old individual was arrested for attempting to access the royal stables.

Additionally, leading up to King Charles III’s coronation in May of the same year, another individual was apprehended for hurling shotgun cartridges into the palace grounds.

In a similar incident that month, a 43-year-old man was arrested for driving his car into the gates protecting Downing Street, the residence of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
