On Friday, armed robbers attacked a road safety officer identified as Abu, who was on his way home from a bank in Lokoja, Kogi State. The robbers, who had trailed him from the bank, ambushed him near the Lokongoma Phase One market, demanding money.
An eyewitness reported that the robbers, driving a Toyota Camry, blocked Abu’s motorcycle and a struggle ensued. During the altercation, Abu was shot three times in both legs and his shoulder. The robbers then fled with an unspecified amount of money.
The Kogi State police command confirmed the incident. According to the police public relations officer, SP William Aya, officers recovered N139,000 from the scene. Abu was immediately rushed to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment.
SP Aya stated, “At exactly 1:30 pm, officers received a distress call and arrived at Lokongoma, Phase One in Lokoja, where they found Abu, a road safety officer, shot in both legs and the shoulder. He was coming from the bank when he was attacked.”
The police commissioner, Bertrand Onuoha, has deployed officers to the scene to ensure the safety of residents and to track down the armed robbers responsible for the attack.
