Kogi State University Expands Admission Quota to 1,750, Celebrates First Academic Session

The management of Kogi State University (KSU), Kabba, has announced an increase in its admission quota to 1,750 for the 2024/2025 academic session. This move comes after the university successfully completed its first academic session, following its establishment in 2023. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kehinde Eniola, made this known during a press conference at the university’s campus in Kabba.

Prof. Eniola stated that KSU had been oversubscribed in its first year, with a large number of students selecting it as their first-choice institution. To ensure quality education and leadership training, the university has set a minimum cut-off mark of 170. The VC assured that students who meet the admission criteria, even if they do not secure their preferred courses, will still be considered for admission.

For applicants who may not initially secure admission, the VC highlighted that KSU is in partnership with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the College of Agriculture, Kabba, through the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) program. Successful IJMB candidates will be given priority for direct entry admission into the university.

Reflecting on the successful conclusion of the 2023/2024 academic year, Prof. Eniola praised the vision of former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, whose efforts have enabled the institution to thrive. He also expressed gratitude for the continued support of the current Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, particularly in the areas of funding and the timely constitution of the university’s Governing Council. The VC noted that over 3,000 candidates applied through JAMB for the upcoming academic session, indicating the institution’s growing popularity.

KSU’s campus, which was once undeveloped land, has been transformed with significant infrastructure improvements, facilitating seamless teaching and learning. Prof. Eniola also acknowledged various contributions from community and development associations, including the donation of 400 chairs by the Okun Development Association (North America) and support from the Kabba Development Union (KDU) during the university’s matriculation.

To enhance security on campus, the university has partnered with a local security outfit and received five motorcycles from the Security Trust Fund to patrol the institution. Additionally, transportation services have been subsidized by local transport unions, helping students and staff.

As part of the university’s tradition, students from the Departments of Theatre Arts, Mass Communication, and Business Administration successfully showcased their presentations, contributing to the vibrant academic and cultural life at the institution.

Prof. Eniola also shared that he had recently presented academic papers as a guest speaker at several institutions, including the University of Ibadan, University of Science and Technology Okitipupa, and Joseph Ayo Babalola University, further establishing KSU’s presence in Nigeria’s academic landscape.
