The Kogi State Government has received 10 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses from the Federal Government as part of efforts to reduce transportation costs in the state. The handover ceremony took place on Wednesday in Lokoja.
Governor Ahmed Ododo, represented by Deputy Governor Elder Joel Salihu, praised President Bola Tinubu for the initiative. Ododo emphasized that Kogi State is committed to aligning with programs aimed at benefiting its citizens, particularly in reducing transportation expenses.
He announced that the state has developed plans to provide training for 250 youths across its 21 local government areas in areas such as CNG conversion, welding, automobile mechatronics, and solar system installation. The training will be conducted in partnership with the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute (NKFI).
Minister of Steel Development, Shaibu Audu, also spoke at the event, noting that the CNG initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. Audu explained that using CNG vehicles could lead to a 40% reduction in transportation costs, an important step in stabilizing the economy.
Michael Oluwagbemi, CEO of the Presidential CNG Initiative, highlighted that the Federal Government will provide free conversions for commercial vehicles to CNG. This initiative aims to ease the burden on Nigerians by reducing transportation costs across the country.
