Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has flagged off the construction of a 20-kilometer rural road linking Obajana, Uro, and Aku communities, connecting parts of Lokoja and Adavi local government areas. The project is part of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), supported by the World Bank and other stakeholders.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ismaila Isah, it was revealed that the road is the first phase of a larger initiative to construct over 65 kilometers of rural roads. The goal is to boost food security by improving access to farms, farming communities, and markets.
Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of rural infrastructure in driving economic growth and enhancing food security, stating that the road will not only ease transportation but also stimulate rural development. He called on benefiting communities to take ownership of the project and urged contractors to ensure integrity and professionalism in delivering the work.
The State Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engineer Abdulmutalib Mohammed, highlighted the project’s benefits, including reducing transportation costs for farmers and traders. National RAAMP Coordinator, Engineer Aminu Bodinga, represented by Joy Amadi, commended the governor for his commitment to rural development.
Local traditional rulers, including the Olu of Oworo, Muhammed Baiyerohi, praised the initiative, noting that it will enhance agricultural activities and reduce traffic on the Obajana road. The road project is seen as a significant step in improving rural livelihoods and economic opportunities for the state’s farmers and traders.
