Kogi State Begins Statewide Property Enumeration Exercise

The Kogi State Bureau of Lands Development has commenced a statewide property enumeration exercise to enable individuals, organizations, communities, and foreign investors to identify and take ownership of their properties in a transparent and conflict-free process.

Speaking in Lokoja on Monday, the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau, Baiyegusi Taiwo, representing the Director General, Alhaji Abdulmalik Teina, explained that the initiative is part of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration’s effort to position Kogi State as an epicenter for economic and commercial activity.

Purpose of the Exercise

Teina highlighted that the property enumeration exercise is aimed at creating an accurate database for the state, which will aid in socio-economic planning, security enhancement, and fostering investment.

“The property enumeration exercise aims to develop a databank with accurate information about the existing lands and other properties in the state. This will assist in planning for the state’s socio-economic and security development,” he said.

Citizen Cooperation and Process Transparency

Teina urged residents to cooperate with enumerators by providing accurate information about their properties. He assured citizens that the process is not a witch-hunt but a tool for effective state planning and development.

He also clarified that the exercise is free of charge and warned residents against making payments to enumerators.

Benefits of Property Enumeration

The exercise is expected to deliver several benefits, including:

  • Ease of business transactions
  • Enhanced security services
  • Wealth creation and investment attraction
  • Reduction of land disputes among individuals, communities, and organizations

Teina expressed optimism that the initiative would transform Kogi State into a preferred destination for local, national, and international investors.

“When actualized, this initiative will significantly reduce land disputes and make Kogi State a haven for investments,” Teina added.

The Bureau called on all stakeholders to embrace the initiative and contribute to its success in making Kogi State a hub of development and economic activity.
