Expanding Healthcare Access

The governor stated that the new initiative complements the ongoing revitalization of 70 PHCs, which are already at various stages of completion following approval in March 2024. In total, over 150 healthcare centres in the state will be upgraded to functional Level-2 facilities.

Governor Ododo emphasized that this effort reflects his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and ensuring access to quality services, especially in grassroots communities. He acknowledged the support of the World Bank, which has been instrumental in funding this initiative.

“As we step into 2025, we are proud to launch the upgrade of 88 additional PHCs. This marks another bold step toward achieving effective healthcare delivery and universal health coverage for our people. With the invaluable support of the World Bank, the Kogi State Government has committed over ₦7 billion to this project,” he said.

Collaboration and Execution

The governor commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing healthcare access for Nigerians and appreciated the efforts of the immediate past administration of former Governor Yahaya Bello for laying a strong foundation in the health sector.

He urged contractors to uphold professionalism and ensure timely completion of the projects within four months. Contractors were also directed to work closely with local government authorities and community stakeholders to implement social and environmental safeguards.

Community Involvement

Governor Ododo called on local authorities and community stakeholders to take ownership of the healthcare centres, ensuring the safety of personnel, equipment, and facilities upon completion. He stressed the importance of adequate supervision by relevant government authorities under the coordination of the Ministry of Health.

This project aims to strengthen healthcare delivery systems in Kogi State and advance the goal of universal health coverage for all residents.
