Kogi Polytechnic Matriculates 6,549 Students, Warns Against Social Vices

Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, matriculated 6,549 students for the 2024/2025 academic session, urging them to avoid activities that could jeopardize their studies and stay in the institution.

During the 32nd matriculation ceremony held at the Lokoja campus, the Rector, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo, revealed that the new intake includes 3,708 National Diploma (ND) students and 2,841 Higher National Diploma (HND) students, spread across eight schools and 57 programs.

Warning Against Social Vices

Professor Ogbo emphasized the institution’s zero tolerance for social vices, including:

  • Cultism
  • Gun-running
  • Examination malpractice
  • Drug abuse
  • Cybercrimes
  • Indecent dressing
  • Unhealthy social gatherings
  • Destruction of property

He stated, “Ignorance of the law will not be an excuse, and any breach will result in strict penalties, including expulsion or prosecution.”

The Rector particularly highlighted the prohibition of cultism, urging students to avoid being lured into such activities. He also reminded students to carry their ID cards at all times for security purposes and encouraged them to report suspicious activities to the authorities.

Academic Accreditation Success

Professor Ogbo announced that the Polytechnic had achieved full accreditation for all 27 programs assessed during the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) exercise conducted in December 2024. Fully accredited programs include:

  • ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology
  • HND Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology
  • ND Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering Technology
  • HND Science Laboratory Technology (Microbiology option)
  • ND and HND Library and Information Science, among others.

Appreciation for Government Support

The Rector commended former Governor Yahaya Bello and his successor, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, for their investments in education, which contributed to the Polytechnic’s successes.

He concluded by urging the matriculating students to embrace discipline and focus on their academic pursuits to achieve their dreams.
