Kogi State Polytechnic has officially named its library complex after the late Professor Matthew Idowu Ajibero, a former Rector whose tenure greatly advanced the institution’s development. The dedication ceremony took place on Monday at the Polytechnic’s Lokoja campus, where the current Rector, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, unveiled the library’s new name.

Prof. Usman highlighted that the decision to honor Prof. Ajibero in this way was a unanimous one made by the institution’s governing council. He praised Prof. Ajibero for his lasting contributions to the polytechnic, noting his role in initiating the library complex and establishing the Department of Library and Information Science. These efforts were key in strengthening both the Lokoja and Itakpe campuses’ infrastructures.

Reflecting on his personal and professional connections with Prof. Ajibero, Prof. Usman shared that their paths first crossed at Bayero University Kano, where Prof. Ajibero was head of the Library and Information Science Department. They later worked together at the University of Ilorin, where Prof. Ajibero served as Librarian and provided Prof. Usman a recommendation that helped shape his academic career at what is now Prince Abubakar Audu University.

Describing Prof. Ajibero as a “dedicated and committed administrator,” Prof. Usman expressed admiration for his mentor’s humility and impactful leadership. Prof. Usman also announced that the governing council plans to name additional campus structures after two other former rectors to honor their contributions to the polytechnic’s legacy.
