The Kogi State Government has issued a stern warning to principals and head teachers of public schools against collecting school fees from students, emphasizing that education at the primary and secondary levels remains free.
This comes after reports emerged that some school administrators were still demanding payments despite the government’s directive.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, the Commissioner of Education, Wemi Jones, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that no child is denied access to education due to financial constraints.
Jones warned that any school official caught violating the policy will face strict sanctions.
“Governor Usman Ododo has declared a state of emergency in education, and every child must have access to quality education without financial barriers,” he stated.
The commissioner called on parents and students to report any cases of illegal fee collection, assuring that the government remains committed to transparency and accountability in the education sector.
