Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has called on Directors of Local Government (DLGs) and Treasurers to maintain the principles of local government autonomy and adhere to professional ethics in carrying out their duties. Governor Ododo made this appeal during an interactive session with DLGs and Treasurers at the Government House in Lokoja, according to a statement released by his spokesperson, Ismaila Isah, on Saturday.
The Governor emphasized the vital role that local government administrators play in grassroots governance. He urged them to view themselves as representatives of the state government at the community level, noting that their performance is critical to strengthening the relationship between the government and the people, which in turn would foster development in local governance.
In his statement, Ododo praised the DLGs and Treasurers for their resilience and productivity, stressing the importance of accurate record-keeping and the need to uphold professional ethics. He particularly highlighted the significance of transparency and accountability in the public sector, especially for accountants working in local governments.

Governor Ododo encouraged the DLGs to support Treasurers in overcoming challenges in local government administration. He also called for unity among officials, urging them to collaborate with the state’s Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko, to ensure the effective delivery of democratic dividends to the grassroots.
The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Aliyu Umar, commended Governor Ododo for his transparency and accountability in leadership, promising continued legislative support to further bring governance closer to the people.
In her remarks, Kogi State Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko, lauded Governor Ododo for his contributions to grassroots development, particularly in empowering youth and women, creating employment opportunities, and appointing individuals into government positions. She described the governor as a leader with significant impact and humility.
Alhaji Aliyu Musa, the chairman of the forum of DLGs in Kogi State, expressed gratitude to the governor for approving the 72,500 naira minimum wage for workers, noting that this and other initiatives have greatly improved the welfare of civil servants in the state. He also praised the Accountant General for her professionalism and guidance in discharging her responsibilities.
