CUSTECH Osara Gains NUC Approval for Medicine, Law, and Four Other Courses

The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, has received full approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer medicine and surgery, law, and four additional programs. The newly approved courses include physiotherapy, radiography, agriculture, and agricultural engineering.

Established by the administration of former Governor Yahaya Bello in 2020, CUSTECH secured the NUC’s approval through a letter dated September 5, 2024, addressed to the university’s Vice-Chancellor by NUC’s Acting Executive Secretary, Chris J. Maiyaki. The approval follows a resource verification visit by panels of experts who evaluated the institution’s capacity to run the programs.

The NUC’s letter, signed by Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, confirmed that the newly approved courses will commence from the 2024/2025 academic session. The letter emphasized that the approval is only for the full-time mode of the programs, with any future request for part-time programs requiring further consideration by the commission.

The approved programs and their titles are:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS)
  • Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT)
  • Bachelor of Radiography (B.Rad.)
  • Bachelor of Agriculture (B.Agric.)
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Agricultural Engineering (B.Eng.)
  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)

The university is encouraged to ensure it has adequate human and material resources for the development of these programs. This approval marks a significant milestone for CUSTECH, expanding its academic offerings and contributing to the educational growth of Kogi State.
