Joy as Federal Government Workers Set to Receive January Salaries

The Accountant General of the Federation has assured federal workers that the delay in the disbursement of January salaries will be addressed, with payments set to commence from Thursday evening. The delay was attributed to a glitch in the Government Integrated Financial Management System (GIFMIS) platform.

The postponement of salary payments had raised concerns among federal workers, who were informed of the delay through a January 31 memo issued by the bursary department of the National Mathematics Centre, Abuja. The memo cited the non-conclusion of the 2024 appropriation on the GIFMIS platform as the cause for the delay.

Signed by the acting Bursar, Pius Ukwah, the memo stated, “As of today, the OAGF is still working on finalising the 2024 appropriation on the GIFMIS platform, and as a result, the personnel warrant for January is yet to be released.” It also acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the delay, stressing that the situation applied to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Responding to inquiries, the Director Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant General, Bawa Mokwa, confirmed that the issue had been resolved. He assured workers that payments would commence on Thursday evening, alleviating concerns over the delay in receiving their January salaries.
