Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has inaugurated mobile veterinary clinics to offer free veterinary services across the state’s 27 local government areas. The initiative, the first of its kind in Jigawa, is part of the administration’s 12-point agenda to enhance the quality of life for residents, particularly in rural and nomadic communities.

During the launch event in Garbau village, Miga Local Government Area, Governor Namadi emphasized the program’s significance for the state’s agricultural economy, especially for Fulani herders who rely on healthy livestock for their livelihoods. The initiative includes the provision of motorcycles for veterinary staff, free veterinary services, and a continuous supply of veterinary drugs to improve livestock health.

Each local government area will receive five fully equipped motorcycles, with a total of 535 mobile clinics operating across the state. These clinics will bring essential veterinary services to remote areas at no cost, ensuring the well-being of cattle and supporting the pastoralist lifestyle of the Fulani herders.

Governor Namadi also announced other initiatives, such as the renovation of nomadic schools, the hiring of 235 nomadic teachers, and the appointment of 10 Fulani advisors to the governor. Additionally, a milk purchasing program will be implemented to ensure fair prices for Fulani herders, providing them with a stable income.

The governor further stressed the importance of fostering harmony between farmers and herders by safeguarding cattle routes, enhancing grazing reserves, and creating new watering points for livestock.
