In a recent press statement released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), it has been announced that voice and data services, which were disrupted due to cuts in undersea fibre optics along the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal on March 14, 2024, have now been restored to approximately 90% of their peak utilization capacities.
The statement indicates that all operators affected by the cuts have implemented recovery measures, drawing upon alternative submarine cables that were unaffected by the cuts. This action has allowed them to recover approximately 90% of their peak utilization capacities.
Furthermore, mobile network operators have assured the Commission that both data and voice services will operate optimally, as they have activated alternative connectivities to mitigate the effects of the undersea cable cuts while awaiting full repairs.
The NCC expressed its gratitude to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the downtime caused by the undersea fibre cuts.
The press statement was signed by Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs, on March 18, 2024.
