The Igala Student Association (ISA) has issued a plea to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, urging him to prioritize the appointment of a Vice Chancellor of Igala extraction in one of the three state-owned universities. ISA emphasizes the importance of fairness, justice, and equity in the selection process.
In a statement released by the Public Relations Officer, Ahmadu Enyojo Hope, the association highlighted the current imbalance in leadership representation, with two Vice Chancellors from Ebira extraction and one from Okun land in the state-owned universities. ISA stressed that appointing a Vice Chancellor of Igala origin would not only contribute to academic excellence but also foster a sense of belonging among Igala students.
The association asserted that it is crucial to ensure that major ethnic groups within Kogi State are well-represented in the leadership of state-owned universities. ISA emphasized the wealth of talent and expertise within the Igala community, emphasizing the potential contributions to the growth and development of Kogi State universities.
ISA appealed to Governor Bello to consider their request as a means of promoting unity and collaboration among diverse ethnic groups in the state. The association expressed optimism that the Governor would give due consideration to their appeal, reinforcing the commitment to equitable representation and ensuring that the leadership of Kogi State-owned universities reflects the rich cultural diversity of the state.
