Locals reported that the gunmen entered the town in a vehicle, driving directly to the monarch’s residence. “The attackers, armed and in numbers, were seen heading towards His Royal Highness’s residence around 9 p.m. on Monday,” said Adukwu Ajibili, a resident. “Moments later, gunshots rang out, causing residents to flee in all directions.”

After the gunmen had left, residents discovered that the traditional ruler had been killed in the attack. The town has since been thrown into confusion, with many residents relocating to nearby villages out of fear.

As of the time of this report, the Kogi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Williams Aya, had not responded to calls or messages regarding the incident.
