Gunmen Abduct Ace Journalist’s Relations in Kogi, Demand N50 Million Ransom
Three relatives of Malam Ahmed Tahir Ajobe, a former Daily Trust editor, were abducted on Thursday evening by gunmen in Ankpa Local Government Area, Kogi State. The victims include Mr. Ajobe’s immediate younger sister, Halimtu-Sadiya Tahir, along with a male and another female family member.

The abduction occurred along the Ankpa-Adoka-Makurdi road, notorious for its poor condition, as the victims were returning from a local market in Awo. They had gone to purchase items for the 7-day prayers for Malam Ajobe’s mother, Malama Aishetu Tahir, who passed away on Sunday after a prolonged illness.
Ransom Demands
The kidnappers contacted the family on Friday afternoon, demanding a ransom of N50 million for the release of the victims. A family friend disclosed that no payment has been made yet, and negotiations are ongoing.
“Yes, three of Ajobe’s family members were kidnapped at gunpoint at about 3 PM on Thursday,” the source confirmed. “The kidnappers demanded N50 million on Friday, but I cannot confirm what the family is offering or if there’s progress in the negotiations.”
Community Concerns
The incident has raised concerns over the deteriorating security situation along the Ankpa-Adoka-Makurdi road, where similar abductions have been reported in the past. Residents and travelers are urging the government to address the security challenges and improve road infrastructure to curb such attacks.
Efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the victims, and the family has appealed for prayers and support during this difficult time.
