Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has called on wealthy individuals and corporate organizations to support the development of education in the state. Speaking at the 2nd Ebira Education Summit and fund-raising event organized by the Ebira Education Trust Fund Limited in collaboration with the Ebira Youth Congress at Reverton Hotel in Lokoja on Saturday, Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in advancing educational opportunities.
Represented by Dr. Oricha Shuaibu, Director-General of the Government House, Governor Ododo highlighted the state government’s commitment to providing quality education through infrastructure development and the engagement of qualified teachers. He noted that the previous administration had laid a solid foundation in the education sector, which his administration aims to build upon.
“Education should be a collective responsibility of all and sundry. As a government, we are working hard to ensure that we provide quality education at all levels for our youth, and we have commenced the process of issuing bursary awards to Kogi students in tertiary institutions,” Governor Ododo stated. He also assured that the state government would honor its pledge of ₦300 million made in 2020 to support the trust fund’s initiatives aimed at assisting less privileged students.
Commending the Ebira Youth Congress for organizing the event, Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that children from disadvantaged backgrounds have access to quality education, which is essential for nurturing future leaders.
In his remarks, Prof. Muhammed Salihu Audu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ebira Education Trust Fund Ltd, underscored the critical role of education in global development. He highlighted the trust fund’s significant impact in providing relief to orphans and indigent youths in Kogi Central. Prof. Audu also appealed to those who had previously pledged scholarships for master’s and doctoral students at the trust fund’s first summit in 2020 to fulfill their commitments promptly.
Dr. Abdullahi Ozomata, the chairman of the occasion, echoed these sentiments, urging well-meaning Ebira sons and daughters, both locally and abroad, to contribute towards the educational development of Ebira land.
The event underscored the ongoing efforts to enhance educational opportunities in Kogi State, with a focus on collaboration between the government and private sector stakeholders.
