Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has committed to honoring two students from Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) who were tragically killed by their kidnappers.
The students, James Anajuwe and Caleb Musa, were among 31 students abducted by gunmen from the university campus on May 9th, 2024.
During a meeting with the 29 rescued students on Wednesday, Governor Ododo assured both students and the university’s management of enhanced security measures on campus. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the safety of students and educational institutions across the state. Ododo promised to complete the university’s perimeter fencing within four months and to establish comprehensive security surveillance with 24/7 emergency response capabilities.
Governor Ododo emphasized the ongoing collaboration with the university management to regularly review and improve the institution’s security framework, aligning with the state government’s safe school initiative. He assured that his administration would remain steadfast in providing accessible education to the state’s youth.
Reiterating his commitment to a secure learning environment throughout the state, the governor vowed to relentlessly combat criminal elements wherever they might be.
During his visit, Governor Ododo also inspected several university facilities, including the Senate Building, new male and female hostel projects, and the University Demonstration Farms.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Abdulrahman Salawu, expressed gratitude to the governor for his supportive role during the students’ abduction and subsequent rescue. He also acknowledged the governor’s support for the families of the deceased students and pledged the university management’s cooperation in achieving the desired development for the institution under Governor Ododo’s administration.
