Governor Ododo Makes Unscheduled Visit to GYB Model Science Secondary School, Pledges Continued Focus on Education

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, paid an unscheduled visit to GYB Model Science Secondary School, Adankolo, Lokoja, on Monday to assess the welfare of students and staff. The governor, accompanied by top government officials, was warmly received by the school principal and given a tour of the classrooms.

Appreciation from Students
During the visit, a student representative, Zainab, expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for prioritizing education in the state.
“Your payment of examination fees has made it possible for children from poor backgrounds to access education. You have demonstrated a deep commitment to the plight of the less privileged in Kogi State. Education is now free in all public schools, and you are paying for both internal and external examinations. You are indeed a great leader,” she said.
The students also requested the governor to procure a school bus and transform the school into a boarding institution by building hostels.

Governor’s Interaction with Students
Governor Ododo reminisced about his own school days, recalling how he missed the opportunity to meet the late Prince Abubakar Audu during a visit to his secondary school. Determined to create lasting memories, the governor personally shook hands with every student in the class, a gesture that delighted the students.

Commitment to Education
In his address, Governor Ododo reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to education as a top priority.
“By paying for your examinations, we are fulfilling our duty, not doing you a favor. All I ask is that you be good ambassadors of our state and excel in your studies. The future of Kogi State depends on how well we invest in your education, and I promise not to fail you,” the governor said.
He also assured the students that hostels would be built for them and a school bus procured to ease their transportation challenges.
Support for Higher Education
Governor Ododo further emphasized that his administration’s support would extend to higher education, with students benefiting from bursaries and scholarships. Reflecting on his own humble beginnings, he assured students that their social status would not hinder their access to quality education under his administration.
The governor concluded by encouraging the students to work hard and pursue their dreams, promising that his government would continue to create opportunities for them to succeed.
