Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has launched the distribution of 10,000 free Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration certificates to unregistered micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the state.
The initiative, unveiled at the 2025 Kogi State MSME & Financial Inclusion Conference, aims to formalize businesses, improve financial access, and strengthen the state’s entrepreneurial landscape.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, Deputy Governor Salifu Oyibo emphasized that this program is part of a broader strategy to drive economic inclusion in Kogi.
Comprehensive Support for MSMEs
As part of the initiative, the state government is introducing additional programs to support small business owners, including:
- An MSME cooperative society to foster collaboration among entrepreneurs.
- A talent hunt initiative to identify and nurture skilled individuals.
- An MSME hub to provide essential resources for business growth.
Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment that enables small enterprises to thrive. He stressed that reducing barriers to formalization and financial access will position Kogi State as a key player in Nigeria’s economic transformation.
Call for Collaboration
The governor urged financial institutions, development agencies, and private sector stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring the sustainability and success of these initiatives.
Mohammad Kadiri Okeji, Managing Director of the Kogi Enterprise Development Agency (KEDA), highlighted the need to engage industry leaders, policymakers, and banks in supporting small businesses.
He further announced that a comprehensive evaluation of the program will be conducted next year to measure its impact on job creation and economic growth. This assessment will help shape future policies and ensure MSMEs continue to receive the financial and structural support they need, including access to low-interest startup capital from development banks.
This initiative marks a significant step in empowering small businesses in Kogi and reinforcing the state’s commitment to economic growth and financial inclusion.
