According to Fanwo, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration aims to complete the project in a timely manner, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory standards. The airport is anticipated to serve as a regional aviation hub, benefiting not only Kogi State but also ten other states by easing traffic on the busy Lokoja-Abuja road and reducing congestion at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

“The strategic location of Kogi as the nation’s central state offers a significant advantage in positioning it as a hub in the aviation market,” Fanwo stated. He further highlighted that the project is expected to boost the state’s economy, generate jobs, and enhance Kogi’s visibility on the global stage. A dedicated cargo terminal will also be included to support trade and logistics.

Fanwo extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development for the approval, emphasizing Governor Ododo’s commitment to hiring skilled industry professionals to ensure a successful project completion. He also reassured Kogi residents that the Ododo administration remains focused on delivering impactful projects that build on the past eight years of growth in the state.

Zariagi, which currently hosts an airstrip, has been deemed a strategic and suitable location by officials from the Ministry of Aviation, who were pleased with the state’s plans for the airport.
