Elon Musk has purchased a $35 million, multi-mansion compound in Austin, Texas, designed to accommodate his large, blended family, which includes 11 children with three different women. The 14,400-square-foot property is inspired by Tuscan villas, and an additional six-bedroom mansion was purchased nearby to provide adjoining residences.
Musk reportedly intends for his two youngest children’s mothers, Shivon Zilis and singer Grimes, to live close by, allowing his children to spend more time together. Sources reveal that Zilis, who shares twins Strider and Azure and another child with Musk, has already moved into one of the homes. However, Grimes, who shares three children with Musk—X AE A-XII, Exa Dark Sideræl, and Techno Mechanicus—has not joined the compound as she is currently in a custody dispute with Musk.
Musk has older children, including 20-year-old twins Griffin and Vivian and 18-year-old triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian, with his first wife, Justine Musk. Though these adult children are welcome at the compound, sources indicate that Musk is estranged from at least one of them. Vivian has publicly criticized her father, describing him as “not a family man.”
Musk, who holds a net worth of $268.8 billion, has been vocal about his concerns over the global birthrate decline. He has filed legal claims in Texas for the custody of his children with Grimes, which some speculate is intended to secure a more favorable child support agreement, given Texas’ capped child support laws. Grimes, meanwhile, has filed for custody in California, citing her recent relocation there.
This compound marks Musk’s latest move to maintain close ties with his family while managing his various businesses, and he remains committed to his vision of encouraging larger families globally.
