Nigerian music producer Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, recently emphasized the importance of DNA testing to combat paternity fraud, advising men to take steps to confirm the biological paternity of their children. Don Jazzy believes a DNA test holds greater importance than traditional ceremonies, including naming ceremonies. Sharing his view on Instagram, he wrote, “DNA test is more important than naming ceremony.”
This statement has sparked a debate among Nigerians, with some agreeing with the necessity of DNA tests, especially given recent incidents of paternity fraud. Others, however, have voiced concerns over the trust implications and social sensitivity involved.
In addition to his comments, Don Jazzy recently made headlines by donating N100 million to social media activist VeryDarkMan’s newly established Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). This organization is focused on community development and improving public schools. Initially, VeryDarkMan, concerned about the unusually large donation, shared a video on Instagram questioning the deposit and requested an investigation by Zenith Bank, which has since been addressed.
