A major economic boost has arrived in Nasarawa State with the opening of a $200 million lithium processing facility by Chinese firm Jiuling Lithium Mining Company. Governor Abdullahi Sule has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the significant employment opportunities it will bring to the region.

Governor Sule Encourages Youth to Pursue Technical Training

Speaking during an inspection of the factory site in Endo, Nasarawa Local Government Area, Governor Sule urged young Nigerians to enroll in technical training programs that would qualify them for lucrative positions in the emerging lithium mining sector.

“The people of Nasarawa stand to gain immensely from this investment, provided they acquire the necessary skills. The company has assured us that they will prioritize hiring qualified local personnel,” Governor Sule stated.

Competitive Salaries and Employment Prospects

During discussions with Jiuling’s management, it was confirmed that Nigerian employees, particularly those with technical expertise, could earn a minimum salary of N500,000 per month. This promise of competitive wages makes the project a game-changer for employment in the state.

Governor Sule highlighted that while some engineers and technicians from Nasarawa have already secured jobs, others from neighboring states such as Kogi, Benue, and Plateau are also benefiting.

“I encourage our youth to seize this opportunity by studying technical courses that align with the skills required in the lithium mining industry. The company will hire local workers first if they are qualified; otherwise, they will recruit from elsewhere,” he explained.

Strategic Partnership with China

Governor Sule’s recent visit to Jiuling’s headquarters in Yichun, China, played a pivotal role in securing this investment. During the visit, he engaged with the company’s chairman, who reaffirmed their commitment to establishing a world-class lithium processing facility in Nasarawa.

Jiuling Seeks Government Support for Infrastructure and Security

Jiuling Lithium Mining Company’s Managing Director, Xiong Jin, reaffirmed their commitment to investing $200 million in the facility. However, he also appealed for government support in enhancing infrastructure and security to ensure smooth operations.

With over 800 workers already engaged at the site, the project is set to become one of Nigeria’s largest lithium processing centers, driving industrial growth and economic transformation in Nasarawa State.

A Bright Future for Nasarawa’s Workforce

As the lithium industry continues to expand, the need for skilled labor will rise. Governor Sule’s call for technical education and skill development presents a golden opportunity for local youth to secure high-paying jobs and contribute to Nigeria’s growing mining sector.

This investment marks a new chapter in Nasarawa’s economic landscape, promising prosperity and sustainable development for its people.
