The Canadian government has announced the cancellation of the 10-year multiple-entry visa for Nigerians and other international applicants, shifting away from what was previously a “standard document” for travelers. This move is part of Canada’s strategy to manage immigration levels following a significant post-COVID population increase.

Canada Ends Automatic 10-Year Multiple-Entry Visas Amid Population Surge

The 10-year multiple-entry visa, which previously allowed holders to enter and exit Canada freely for an extended period, will no longer be the default option. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) clarified that immigration officers now have the discretion to issue either single-entry or multiple-entry visas and to decide their validity period based on individual cases.

This policy adjustment follows the IRCC’s recent revision of its immigration targets, with the target for new permanent residents reduced for the coming years. For 2025, the goal has been lowered from 500,000 to 395,000, with further reductions to 380,000 in 2026 and 365,000 in 2027.

This change signifies Canada’s focused approach to managing its population growth while maintaining a balanced immigration policy.
