Ahmed Usman Ododo, Governor of Kogi State, has urged travelers to refrain from embarking on night journeys following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of 13 bus passengers.
In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo expressed condolences to the families of the accident victims and emphasized the importance of avoiding nighttime travel.
The accident, which occurred around 7:30 pm on Sunday, was disclosed by the Kogi FRSC Sector Commander, Samuel Oyedeji. It involved a commercial Sharon bus and an articulated cement truck near Obajana Market on the Obajana-Lokoja Road in the Lokoja Local Government Area.
Governor Ododo expressed concern over the incident and pledged support to the affected families during their time of mourning.
“I am disturbed by this accident and the loss of lives and property it has caused in the area. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the families of the deceased and the survivors. We are committed to assisting them during this difficult time,” Governor Ododo stated.
The governor commended the prompt response of the Federal Road Safety Commission and other relevant agencies to the accident. Additionally, he reiterated his call for Nigerians to avoid traveling at night. He urged transporters in the state to maintain passenger manifests at bus terminals to facilitate easier identification in case of emergencies.
Governor Ododo’s advisory comes in the wake of the tragic accident, aiming to prevent further loss of lives on the state’s roads.
