The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported an armed attack on its 330/132/33kV transmission substation construction site in Obajana, Kogi State. The attack took place on November 12, 2024, at around 11:55 PM, resulting in damage to a critical component of the substation.

According to TCN’s Public Affairs General Manager, Ndidi Mbah, assailants fired indiscriminately upon arriving at the site, forcing security personnel to flee. During the assault, the radiator of a 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer, which was already installed, was severely damaged.
The substation in Obajana is expected to play a significant role in boosting power supply to Kogi State and neighboring regions once completed. However, incidents of vandalism, such as this one, are increasingly disrupting transmission projects across the country. TCN is currently assessing the extent of the damage alongside the project contractor to determine the next steps for repairs and security improvements.
The company emphasized the importance of safeguarding infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted power supply and noted that attacks like this only hinder progress toward meeting Nigeria’s energy needs.
