British-Nigerian boxing star, Anthony Joshua, has been suspended from boxing following his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last Saturday at Wembley Stadium. The British Boxing Board has imposed a 28-day suspension on the former two-time world heavyweight champion as a precautionary medical measure after the defeat.
Joshua, who was knocked out in the fifth round by Dubois’ powerful right hand, had an unusually poor performance, being floored four times before the knockout blow. This loss marks Joshua’s fourth career defeat, following previous losses to Andy Ruiz Jr. and Oleksandr Usyk.
The suspension prevents Joshua from entering the ring for the next month, though it is not expected to disrupt any immediate plans, as no upcoming fights have been confirmed. Despite recent setbacks, Joshua remains defiant, dismissing rumors of retirement and vowing to return stronger. He hinted at possibly activating a rematch clause to face Dubois again.
In a social media post, Joshua reflected on his career, stating, “We’ve got to look at the positives… It’s far from over yet,” and emphasized his determination to make the right moves to get back to the top. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, has also mentioned potential future matchups, including a long-awaited bout against Tyson Fury.
Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, revealed that Dubois might fight again in February, leaving open the possibility of a rematch with Joshua. Joshua may also choose to wait for the outcome of the highly anticipated Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk fight, set for December.
