Miss Oyiza Aishat Hamza, a survivor of multiple tragic accidents, is reaching out to governments and philanthropic individuals for urgent assistance with medical treatment, shelter, and continuing her education.

A Promising Future Cut Short

Oyiza was a student at the College of Nursing Obangede, aspiring to become a renowned Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM). However, her promising future was abruptly disrupted on March 7, 2017, due to a catastrophic auto accident on her way back from school to Lokoja. Tragically, she was the sole survivor of the crash on the Lokoja-Okene road, which claimed the lives of her fellow passengers.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Since that first accident, Oyiza has endured multiple life-threatening incidents. The most recent occurred when a trailer collided with a motorcycle she was riding, resulting in the amputation of one of her legs. Despite these overwhelming challenges, Oyiza remains grateful for her life and holds onto hope, inspired by the Biblical verse Ecclesiastes 9:4: “But for him who is joined to all the living there is hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion.”

The Struggle Continues

Oyiza is determined to pursue her dream of becoming a professional nurse. However, her journey is fraught with difficulties. She requires financial support to manage her medical needs, secure shelter, and continue her education. In an emotional interview on Friday in Lokoja, she appealed for assistance to cover her medical expenses, daily sustenance, and academic fees.

Oyiza’s Heart-Wrenching Account

“I have survived three major accidents by the special grace of God. Despite my traumatic experiences and current challenges, I am grateful to be alive. My ordeal began in 2017 when I was a nursing student. The first accident severely affected my hand. In 2019, a second accident resulted in a severe leg fracture and other injuries. The last accident, in December 2022, led to the amputation of my leg after a truck ran over a motorcycle carrying me,” Oyiza recounted, fighting back tears.

“Since my surgery in January 2023 at the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja, I have been struggling to continue my treatment due to financial constraints. My family has done their best, but they lack the means to support me fully. I lost my father on the day of my leg amputation, which has added to my emotional and financial burdens.”

Robbed and Struggling

Oyiza’s challenges were further compounded on May 18, 2024, when she was robbed. A thief stole her phone, the money raised for her rent, and all her belongings. Although the culprit was apprehended by vigilantes, he was released without returning her possessions. This incident left her destitute, forcing her to live in a classroom at a school in Lokoja.

A Plea for Help

“I need help beyond medical treatment. I need a place to stay and financial assistance to empower myself and complete my education. I still aspire to fulfill my dream of becoming a professional nurse,” Oyiza implored. She can be contacted at +2347070150902, and donations can be made to her account: Hamzat Aishat Oyiza, GTBank, Account No: 0156647350.

Oyiza’s story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit. Despite facing immense adversity, she continues to hope and strive for a better future. She calls on the government and compassionate individuals to assist her in overcoming these challenges and achieving her dreams.
